Install on your phone
Three steps. Then show up.
Up to three stops, usually in this order. Which ones you meet depends on your browser, your Android version, the manufacturer and your own settings — some are skipped entirely. The wording differs too, so read this as what happens, not as exact quotes.
The browser asks whether to keep the file
Chrome usually warns that this kind of file can harm your device. The warning isn't a finding about this particular file — it's what the browser says about app files you download outside a store. Choose to keep it.
Android says it isn't allowed to install from this source
Open the file and your phone sends you to a setting where you allow the app you downloaded with — usually your browser or Files. Turn it on, go back, and the install continues. The permission belongs to that one app, not to everything, and you can turn it off again afterwards.
Play Protect wants to look at the app
Your phone's own scanner often doesn't recognise an app that didn't come from Play. Depending on your settings it may ask whether it can send the file to Google for a check, scan it quietly, or say nothing at all. If it asks, do let it — there's nothing in the file we're hiding. If it refuses and won't let you past, the right move is to stop and ask us, not to look for a way around it.

Why the warning comes — and what it doesn't mean
What we can say
Every version we publish here is signed with one and the same key, ours. That's one of the things your phone checks: Android refuses to install an update over the app unless it carries the same signature. So what it reliably shows is that the next version is signed with the same key as the one you already have. That the key is ours, and only ours, rests on you trusting us — no signature can show that. And it says nothing about the app being flawless or reviewed.
What we can't say
That Google has reviewed the app. They haven't — it isn't in Play, and we haven't had anyone outside the project review it. Your phone's warning is about where the app came from, not about what's in it: the store's review is missing, and what Play Protect may do is an automated scan for malware, not a review. What's left is that you're trusting us — a reasonable choice to make deliberately and a poor one to make out of habit.
This is an early version
- Gyvo is still being built, and changes often. Parts of the app are marked as in testing, and where a number is missing you'll see a dash instead — that means we couldn't measure it, not that the value was zero.
- An app installed this way doesn't update itself. When there's a newer version it appears on this page, and you download the file again and install over the old one.
- Steps come from Health Connect. Android 14 and newer has it built in; on older phones you may need to install Health Connect from Google Play first.
Before you change phones
Your training data lives on the phone, and cloud sync stays off until you switch it on yourself — under More → Account → Sync data to the cloud, which needs a Google sign-in. Leave it off and your history exists only on this phone: lose the phone, or uninstall the app, and it goes with it.
We keep the key we sign with, so that a future version from Play can ideally update an install from here instead of replacing it. We can't promise from here that it will work out — that's decided when the app goes up at Google. Sync is the part that's in your hands.
